I get many messages about opportunities and life in Germany. One of the first things I always suggest is: learn German.

A day at the hospital, in German

Recently, I experienced the importance of this myself. I went alone to a hospital in a small German town and managed the entire day in German — from registration and conversations with the medical staff to understanding instructions and handling everything on my own. I was even able to have conversations with the person I shared the hospital room with.

That experience gave me more confidence than any language certificate could. I genuinely enjoyed the feeling of being able to communicate freely without constantly worrying about a language barrier.

Even my wife had some doubts about whether I could manage everything on my own. 😀 But I did — and it felt really good.

Still learning

I'm still learning, and I'm definitely not fluent yet. But I just wanted to share this feeling: being able to do things independently because you can communicate in the local language opens up a whole new level of freedom and opportunities.

So, if you're planning to move to Germany or are already here and looking for opportunities, my advice is simple:

Learn German. 🇩🇪

You don't have to be perfect. Start speaking, make mistakes, and keep improving.
